John Elderkin was born about 1616. [Ref, 1;447] He died on 23 Jun 1687 in Norwich. [Ref, 1;447] He married first Abigail Unknown. [Ref, 1;447] He married second as her second husband Elizabeth (Drake) Gaylord. [Ref, 1;447] Elizabeth was the daughter of John Drake and the widow of William Gaylord of Windham. [Ref, 1;447] She died on 8 Jun 1716 in Norwich, age 95. [Ref, 1;447]

John is first recorded in Lynn in 1637. [Ref, 1;447] He had 20 acres alloted to him there in 1638. [Ref, 1;447] He was a carpenter and a millwright. [Ref, 1;447] He was in Dedham in 16141; Reading in 1646; Providence in 1648; New London in 1651; Norwich in 1664. [Ref, 1;447] John is on a list of the first settlers of Norwich in 1660. [Ref]

John build the first and second churches in New London and in Norwich. [Ref, 1;447]
