  1. Ebenezer Fitch was born on 26 Sep 1756 in Norwich. [CVR][TCBD] He died on 21 Mar 1833 in West Bloomfield, New York. [TCBD] He married Mary (Backus) Cogswell in May 1792. Mary was the daughter of Maj. Ebenezer Backus. [TCBD]
    Ebenezer graduatd from Yale in 1777. [TCBD] He taught in Hanover, New Jersey for a year. [TCBD] He received his D. D. degree from Harvard in 1800. [TCBD] He was a tutor at Yale from 1780 to 1783. [TCBD] For the following three years he unsuccessfully followed a business career. [TCBD] He was a gain a tutor at Yale from 1786 to 1791 and also acted as the librarian. [TCBD] He was licensed to preach in May 1787. [TCBD] He was elected precepter of a new academy in Williamstown, Massachusetts in Oct 1790. [TCBD] In 1793 this academy was incorporated as Wiliams College and Ebenezer was appointed the first president. [TCBD] He was ordained on 7 Jun 1795. [TCBD] He resigned from Williams in May 1815 and became the pastor of the West Bloomfield Presbyterian church, a post he held for the rest of his life. [TCBD]
