Some Descendants of Josiah Harding (Joseph, Joseph) and Hannah Welch of Eastham

Josiah's estate was settled on 11 Nov 1752. His heirs were Elizabeth, the wife of William Merrick; Martha, the wife of Timothy Cole; Mary (deceased), the wife of Elisha Cobb; Bethia, the wife of John Freeman, Jr.; the widow Hannah Doane; the widow Hannah Harding, their mother. [HCF, p. 98]

  1. Martha Harding was born on 23 Dec 1693 in Eastham. [FSE, 6;46][VRE, 6;12] She died after 11 Nov 1752. She married Timothy Cole.
    On 1 Sep 1752 Timothy Cole, yeoman of Eastham, was apponted the guardian of his nephew Elisha Cobb, the minor son of Elisha Cobb and grandson of Josiah Harding, late of Eastham. [HCF, p. 98]
  2. Elizabeth Harding was born on 3 Jan 1695/6 in Eastham. [FSE, 6;46][VRE, 6;12] She died after 11 Nov 1752. She married William Merrick on 20 Oct 1715 in Eastham. [VREO, 15;56] [HCF, p. 98, settlement of her father's estate]
  3. Joshua Harding was born on 27 Oct 1698 in Eastham. [FSE, 6;46][VRE, 6;12] He probably died before 11 Nov 1752.
  4. Bethiah Harding was born on 9 Apr 1701 in Eastham. [FSE, 6;46][VRE, 6;12] She died young.
  5. Josiah Harding was born on 7 Mar 1703 in Eastham. [FSE, 6;46][VRE, 6;12] He probably died before 11 Nov 1752.
  6. Mary Harding was born on 15 Sep 1707 in Eastham. [FSE, 6;46][VRE, 6;12] She died between 1 Jan and 24 Mar 1736/7 and is buried in the ancient cemetery (Cove Burying Ground) in Eastham. [ACE, 8;2] She married Elisha Cobb of Barnstable on 25 Feb 1724/5. [ACE, 8;2][VREO, 16;75]
  7. Jesse Harding was born on 26 Mar 1709 in Eastham. [FSE, 6;46][VRE, 6;12] He probably died before 11 Nov 1752.
  8. Ebenezer Harding was born on 20 Jul 1712 in Eastham. [FSE, 6;46][VRE, 6;12] He died on 27 Jun 1747, age 35, and is buried in the ancient cemetery (Cove Burying Ground) in Eastham.   9. Bethiah Harding was born on 12 May 1716 in Eastham. [FSE, 6;46][VRE, 6;12] She died after 11 Nov 1752. She married John Freeman, Jr.
    John went to Gorham, Maine. [HGM, pp. 607-8]
  10. Hannah Harding may be the Hannah who died at age 94 in Gorham, Maine. [HGM, pp. 607-8] Hannah married Enoch Doane after 30 Aug 1736 (int.) in Eastham. [VREO, 28;146] He died before 11 Nov 1752. She married second William Lakeman. [HGM, pp. 607-8] He died at age 96. [HGM, pp. 607-8]
    Mrs. Bethiah Freeman said that her grandmother Hannah was a Harding of Eastham and a sister to Bethiah, wife of John Freeman of Gorham, Maine. [HGM, pp. 607-8]
    Enoch was a weaver. [HGM, pp. 607-8]
