THOMAS HEWITT

Thomas Hewitt married Hannah Palmer [Ref, entry for Walter Palmer] on 26 Apr 1659 in Stonington. [Ref, p. 22]

Thomas established a West India trade and set out in a coasting ship in 1662 and was never heard of again. [Ref, p. 22] In 1670 Mrs. Hannah Hewitt petitioned the Connecticut general court for liberty to remarry and this was granted. [Ref, p. 22]

  1. Thomas Hewitt was born on 2 May 1660. [Ref, p. 22] He was baptised as an adult on 18 Sep 1681 in Stonington. [Ref] He died before 20 Jan 1686, when he referred to as deceased in his children's baptism records. [Ref]
  2. Benjamin Hewitt was born in 1662. He was baptised as an adult on 24 Jul 1692 in Stonington. He died on 26 Apr 1723. He married Mary Fanning.

Benjamin Hewitt was born in 1662. [Ref, p. 22] He was baptised as an adult on 24 Jul 1692 in Stonington. [Ref] He died on 26 Apr 1723. [Ref, p. 184] He married Mary Fanning [Ref, 2; 3,194] on 24 Sep 1683. [Ref, p. 184]

  1. Benjamin Hewitt was probably born in 1684. [Ref, p. 54] He was baptised on 24 Jul 1692 in Stonington. [Ref, p. 57][Ref] He married Ann Palmer on 3 Mar 1707 in Stonington. [Ref, p. 54]
    Children of Benjamin and Ann: Kesiah (b. 13 Aug 1708), Walter (b. 20 Mar 1710), Nathan (b. 11 Jun 1712), Gershom (b. 6 Sep 1714), Benjamin (b. 7 Mar 1717., Abiah (b. 13 Jan 1719), Olive (b. 13 Dec 1720), Edmund (b. 28 May 1723), Jabish (b. 28 May 1725), Content (b. 26 Mar 1727). [Ref, p. 54]
  2. Israel Hewitt was baptised on 24 Jul 1692 in Stonington. [Ref] He was baptised on 24 jul 1692 in Stonington. [Ref] He died after 16 Sep 1773. He married Ann Breed on 8 Mar 1713/4 in Stonington. [Ref] Ann was the daughter of John and Mercy (Palmer) Breed. [Ref, p. 570]
  3. Tabitha Hewitt was baptised on 24 Jul 1692 in Stonington. [Ref] She died on 19 Dec 1760 in Norwich. [Ref] She probably married first Timothy Herrick of Preston. [Ref] He died before Jun 1733. [Ref] She married second, as his third wife, Joseph Reed on 13 Dec 1752 in Preston. [Ref] Joseph, the son of William Reed, was born on 12 Mar 1680/1 in Norwich. [Ref] He married first Marcy Guppie on 25 Aug 1708 in Norwich. [Ref] He married second Patience Rogers of New London. [Ref] Patience was probably the daughter of William Potts and the widow of Joseph Pendleton of Westerly, RI and Samuel Rogers of New London and Westerly. [Ref] Joseph married fourth Mary Hern of Westerly on 7 Jul 1761 in Norwich. Mary was probably the daughter of Benjamin and Mary Burdick and the widow of John Lewis, Jr. and William Hern. [Ref]
    Tabitha was admitted to the Griswold First Congregational Church in Preston on 10 Jun 1722. [Ref] She was admitted to the Newent Congregational Church in Norwich in 1758. [Ref]
  4. Mary Hewitt was baptised on 12 Aug 1694 in Stonington. She died in 1763. She married Ens. James Billings.
  5. Joseph Hewitt was baptised on 13 Dec 1696 in Stonington. [Ref] He married Mary Chesebrough of Stonington on 5 Oct 1720 in Stonington. [Ref]
  6. Elkanah Hewitt was born in Mar 1699/1700 [!]. [Ref] He was baptised on 7 May 1699 in Stonington. [Ref] He died after 14 Feb 1776, when he signed his will. [Ref] He married first Hannah Unknown. [Ref] He married second Temperance Grant of Norwich on 16 Sep 1773 in Lisbon, New London, CT; he was attended by his older brother Israel. [Ref]
  7. Hannah Hewitt was baptised on 29 Jun 1701 in Stonington in Stonington. [Ref][Ref] She died on 17 Dec 1748. [Ref] She married Increase Billings, the brother of Ens. James Billings on 26 Dec 1720 [Ref] in Stonington [Ref]. She had five sons and three daughters. [Ref]
  8. Henry Hewitt was baptised on 30 Jul 1704 [Ref, p. 570, gives only the year] in Stonington. [Ref]

  9. Content Hewitt was baptised on 8 Apr 1708 in Stonington. [Ref] She married Ebenezer Russell on 14 Jun 1727 [Ref] in Stonington. [Ref] Ebenezer, the son of Rev. Samuel and Abigail (Whiting) Russell, was born on 4 May 1703 and died on 22 May 1731. [Ref]
    Ebenezer graduated from Yale College in 1722. [Ref] He was pastor of the church in North Stonington. [Ref]
  10. Thankful Hewitt was baptised on 3 Jun 1711 in Stonington. [Ref]

Third Generation

MARY HEWITT (bp. 1694 - 1763)

Parents: Benjamin Hewitt and Mary Fanning

Mary Hewitt was baptised on 12 Aug 1694 [Ref] in Stonington. [Ref][Ref] She died in 1763. [Ref] She married Ens. James Billings on 17 Mar 1714/5 [Ref] in Stonington. [Ref]
