  4. Michael Johnston died in 1761. In 1761 Michael and John Pattee were sent by Capt. John Hazen of Haverhill, MA to begin settling Haverhill, NH. [Ref][Ref] They took cattle and went up the Connecticut River. They built shelters for themselves and their cattle at Ox Bow and spent the winter there. In the early summer they recommenced their trip up the river. A little above the mouth of the White River, at a place now known as Olcott Falls, their canoe capsized and Michaed drowned. He is buried on an island, later called Johnston's Island, below the falls. [Ref]

  6. Col. Charles Johnston was born in 1737 in Hampstead. [Ref] He married Ruth Marsh of Londonderry. [Ref] He was a Lieutenant Colonel in the 12th New Hampshire militia in the Revolution. [Ref] He fought at the Battle of Bennington. [Ref]
