WILLIAM SARGEANT (d. aft. 1670/1) of Salisbury and Amesbury

William Sargeant of Amesbury died after 1670/1, when he wrote his will. [Ref] He married Elizabeth Perkins. [Ref]

William Sargent of Salisbury, seaman, sold Samuel Fellows of Salisbury a dwelling house and land on 25 (1) 1648. [Ref]

His name is on a list of the original inhabitants of Salisbury from a town meeting on 3 (12) 1650. [Ref]

William of Salisbury acknowledged judgements in favour of Mr. Jonathan Wade and Mr. William Payne at the 26 (7) 1648 court in Ipswich. [Ref] Michael Spencer sued William for detaining corn and other goods at the 2 (11) 1650 court at Salem. [Ref] William sued Samuel Buswell at the 12 (2) 1653 court at Salisbury over a cow that was killed by a beast of Samuel's. [Ref]

William was sworn clerk of the train band at Salisbury on 3 (12) 1650. [Ref] He was a seaman in 1652. [Ref]

William was on a 19 Mar 1654/5 list of the first settlers in Amesbury. [Ref] William and his son Thomas were on a Jul 1667 list of those with meeting house seats in Amesbury. [Ref]

In his will, William mentions his daughter Elizabeth, wife of Samuel Colby; his sons Thomas and William; his daughters Mary and Sarah; his grandchildren Challis and his grandchildren Dorothy and Elizabeth Colby. [Ref]

  3. Thomas Sargeant was born on 11 (4) 1643. [Ref] He married Rachel Barnes on 2 Mar 1668/9.[Ref says 67/68][Ref] Rachel was the daughter of William Barnes. [Ref] He took the oath of allegiance on 20 Dec 1677. [Ref] He signed a 10 (3) 1680 Amesbury petition to the General Court to have Sgt. Samuel Foot be lieutenant of the Amesbury train band. [Ref] He is on the 24 Dec 1690 list of freemen. [Ref]

  4. William Sargeant was born on 2 (11) 1645. [Ref] He married Mary Colby on 23 Sep 1668. [Ref][Ref] in Amesbury. [Ref] Mary was the sister of William's sister Elizabeth's husband Samuel Colby. William had six children. He took the oath of allegiance on 20 Dec 1677. [Ref] He signed a 10 (3) 1680 Amesbury petition to the General Court to have Sgt. Samuel Foot be lieutenant of the Amesbury train band. [Ref]
