First Generation

GODFREY SHELDON (c. 1559 - 1664/70) of Scarborough

Parents:

Godfrey Sheldon was born about 1559. He died between 13 Mar 1663/4, when he signed his will, and 3 Apr 1670, when it was proved. [Ref] He married Alice Frost on 11 Mar 1620/1 in Bakewell, co. Derby. [Ref]

Sheldon was a planter of Scarborough. [Ref]

Godfrey was about 65 when he signed his will. [Ref] He mentioned his wife Alice, his son William and other children, but not by name. [Ref]

Children of Godfrey Sheldon and Alice Frost:

  1. William Sheldon was baptised on 5 Feb 1622/3. [Ref]
  2. Abraham Sheldon was baptised on 28 Nov 1624. [Ref] He was buried on 13 Dec 1645. [Ref]
  3. A stillborn son was buried on 23 Oct 1626. [Ref]
  4. John Sheldon was baptised on 8 May 1628. [Ref] He is probably the John Sheldon who died on 24 May 1690 and who married Mary (Converse) Thompson of Woburn on 1 Feb 1658/9. [Ref]
  5. Ann Sheldon married first Lieut. Arthur Alger. She married second Samuel Walker.
  6. Unknown daughter marrred Giles Roberts.

Second Generation

ANN SHELDON (d. 1716)

Parents: Godfrey Sheldon and Alice Frost [Ref]

Ann Sheldon died on 21 Mar 1716. [Ref] She married first Lieut. Arther Alger. [Ref] She married second Samuel Walker. [Ref]

Lieut. Arthur Alger was probably the Arthur Alger baptised on 29 Aug 1622 in Yealmpton, Devon, as the son of John Alger. [Ref] Arthur Alger and his brother Andrew purchased land in Saco, ME in 1651. [Ref] He and Andrew were shot by Indians in Oct 1675. Andrew was killed and Arthur died of his wounds on 14 Oct in Marblehead. [Ref] He was wounded at Dunstan and died at William Sheldon's house on 14 Oct 1675. [Ref] Arthur was constable of Scarborough in 1658. [Ref] He was grand juryman in 1661. [Ref] He was representative to the general court in 1671 and 1672. [Ref] He and Ann had no children. [Ref]

Ann and Arthur brought up three sons of Giles Roberts. [Ref]

Ann proved Arthur's nuncupative will on 30 Jun 1676. [Ref]

She was a school teacher in Woburn after Samuel's death. [Ref]
