JOHN STOCKBRIDGE (abt 1608 - 1657) of Scituate and Boston

Parents:

John Stockbridge was born about 1608. He died on 13 (8) 1657 in Boston. [Ref] He married Ann Unknown. Ann was born about 1614.

John Stockbridge, age 27, Ann Stockbridge, age 21, and Charles Stockbridge, age 1, are on a 1635 [?] list of passengers to be transported to New England on the Blessing. [Ref]

Goodman Stockbridge "ye wheeler" had a house in Scituate in 1636. [Ref] Goodwife Stockbridge joined the church at Scituate on 16 Jul 1637. [Ref]

John Stockbridge is in the Scituate section of the 1643 list of those between 16 and 60 able to bear arms in Plymouth Colony. [Ref]

John Stockbridge, a wheelright of Boston, wrote his will on 4 (7) 1657; it was deposed on 3 (2) 1658. [Ref]

  1. Charles Stockbridge was born about 1634. Charles Stockbridge died on 28 Dec 1683 in Scituate. [Ref] Barclay [Ref, 38;186] argues that he married Abigail Eames, the daughter of Capt. Anthony Eames of Marshfield. She died in Mar 1709/10 in Scituate. [Ref] Abigail married second Nathaniel Turner. [Ref, entry for Humphrey Turner][Ref, 38;186]
    Charles's father refers to Charles as his eldest son in his will and left him his water mill at Scituate. [Ref]

  2. Hannah Stockbridge was baptised on 24 Sep 1637 in Scituate. [Ref][Ref: daughter of "Sister Stockbridge"] She married William Tickner on 29 (8) 1656 in Boston. [Ref] Her father refers to Hannah as Hannah Tickner in his will. [Ref]
  3. John Stockbridge was born after 1635. He is refered to as the youngest son in his father's will. [Ref] John Stockbridge took the oath of allegiance on "Novem. 28, [16]" 1677 in Haverhill. [Ref]
  4. Elizabeth Stockbridge was born after 1635. Her father says that she is under 21 in his will. She married Thomas Hyland on 1 Jan 1661 in Scituate.
  5. Sarah Stockbridge was baptised on 15 Mar 1645 in Scituate. [Ref] Her father says that she is under 21 in his will. [Ref] She married Joseph Woodward on 6 Jan 1669 in Scituate. [Ref]
  6. Esther Stockbridge was baptised on 11 Jul 1647 in Scituate. [Ref] She is mentioned in her father's will. [Ref]
  7. Mary Stockbridge was baptised on 29 Apr 1655 in Scituate. [Ref] She is mentioned in her father's will. [Ref]

A "Goodman Stockbridge" was buried on 10 Mar 1637 in Scituate. [Ref]
