First Generation

RICHARD WICOM of Rowley

Richard Wicom married Ann Unknown. She was buried on 25 Aug 1674 in Rowley. [Ref 5;441]

  1. Daniel Wicom (conjectured son) was born in 1635 in England. He died on 13 Apr 1700, at age 65, in Rowley. He married first Mary Smith. He married second Lydia (Bailey) Platts.
  2. John Wicom (conjectured son) married Abigail Kimble on 14 May 1673 in Rowley. [Ref]

CAPT. DANIEL WICOM (1635 - 1700) of Rowley

Parents: Richard Wicom and Ann Unknown?

Daniel Wicom was born in 1635 in England. [Ref] He died on 13 Apr 1700, at age 65, in Rowley. [Ref] He is buried in the Old Cemetery in Rowley. [Ref] He married first Mary Smith, the daughter of Hugh Smith, on 14 or 24 Oct 1658 in Rowley. [Ref] Mary was born in 1642. [Ref] She died on 29 Jan 1690/1 in Rowley. [Ref] He married second Lydia Platts on 11 Nov 1691 in Rowley. [Ref] Lydia was Lydia (Bailey) Platts, the widow of Abel Platts. [Ref] She died on 24 Nov 1722, aged 80, and is buried in the Old Cemetery in Rowley. [Ref]

Daniel was a carpenter and a farmer. [Ref]

Daniel was fined at the 19 Nov 1657 court in Ipswich. [Ref 2;55] He was fined at the 24 Nov 1659 court in Ipswich for "entertaining mens' sons and servants at an unseasonable time in the night and for excessive drinking". [Ref 2;180]

Daniel was chosen selectman on 19 Jan 1676. [Ref 6;270] He was chosen an attorney for Rowley in the town's action against William Longfellow in Apr 1679. [Ref 7;213] He was a representative from Rowley in 1699. [Ref]

Daniel's gravestone is number 300, row 4, east 2. The inscription reads: "Here Lyeth Buried ye body of Capt Daniel Wicom aged 65 years decd April ye 15 1700." [Ref]

  5. Thomas Wicom was baptised on 14 Jul 1672 in Rowley. [Ref]
  6. Frances Wicom was born on 29 Mar 1675 in Rowley. [Ref] She married Samuel Johnson on 31 May 1694 in Rowley. [Ref]
    Frances testisfied against Margaret Scott, who was on trial for witchcraft, on 15 Sep 1692. Margaret was executed on 22 Sep 1692. "The deposistion of frances wycum who testifyeth and saith that quickly after the first court at [Salem] about wicthcraft margerit Scott whom I very well knew: or hir Apperance came to me and did most greviously torment me by choaking and almost presing me to death: and so she did continue affleting me by times tell the 5'th August 1692 being the day of hir examination allso during the time of hir examination margerit scott did most greviously afflect me: and also severall times sence: and I beleve in my heart that margerit Scott is a wicth and that she has often afflected me by acts of wicthcraft." [Ref 2;45]
  7. Rebecca Wicom was born on 7 Dec 1677 in Rowley. [Ref]
  8. Martha Wicom was born on 6 Mar 1679 in Rowley. [Ref] She married Daniel Hardy of Bradford on 15 Jan 1701/2 in Rowley. [Ref] Capt. Daniel Hardy was the son of Thomas Hardy and Mercy Tenney.
