HISTORY:

  • Settled as part of Hampton in 1638
  • Hampton became part of Norfolk County in Massachusetts in 1643
  • New Hampshire towns split from Massachusetss in 1679
  • Became the Third Parish in Hampton in 1709
  • Incorporated as Hampton Falls in 1726
  • The western part of Hampton Falls became the town of Kensington in 1732
  • Throat distemper (perhaps diptheria) killed 214 people, including 96 children under age 10, in 1735 - 1736
  • An attempt was made to make Hampton Falls part of Massachusetts in 1739
  • Presbyterians formed a new parish, incorporated as Seabrook in 1768
