Possibly related

Henry Kingsbury of Assington in Suffolk was an associate of Gov. Winthrop and came to New England on the ship Talbot, which was part of Winthrop's fleet in 1630. Henry was probably a close relative of John and Joseph Kingsbury of Dedham and of Henry Kingsbury of Ipswich and Haverhill. [See the discussion in Ref and Ref.] In 1669 Henry of Ipswich and Haverhill gave a deposition in court that he was 54 years old, and therefore was born in 1615. [Ref] Henry of Assington married his wife Margaret in 1621. Therefore, unless the age given in the deposition is incorrect or unless Henry of Assington had a previous wife of whom there is no record, Henry of Assington was not the father of Henry of Ipswich and Haverhill. In his will, John Kingsbury of Dedham calls Joseph of Dedham his brother and Henry of Ipswich his kinsman. [Ref]

HENRY KINGSBURY of Assington

Parents: Unknown

Henry Kingsbury married Margaret Unknown. Perhaps she was the Margaret Alabaster who married Henry Kingsbury in Assington on 18 May 1621. [Ref] This Margaret is perhaps the Margaret Blyth who married Thomas Alabaster on 8 Jul 1618. [Ref] Thomas, a a cousin of Gov.John Winthrop, died on 18 Sep 1620. [Ref]

Henry Talbot was from the parish of Assington in England. [Ref] He came to New England in 1630 in the Talbot, a ship in Gov. Winthrop's fleet. [Ref] It appears that Henry had a connection with Gov. Winthrop in England as Winthrop wrote his wife from aboard the Arabella at Cowes on 28 Mar 1630, "Henry Kingsbury hath a child or two in Talbot sick with measles, but like to do well." [Ref] After arriving, Winthrop wrote to his son on 23 Jul 1630 to tell him that, "Henry Kingsbury hath appointed money to be paid to you by [ ]." Ref] In a letter to his father about a land transaction, Winthrop's son refers to "goodman Kingsbury of Assington". [Ref]

Henry and Margaret had the following children:

  1. James Kingsbury was born 1 Sep 1622 in Assington. [From the parish register, Ref]
  2. Sarah Kingsbury was born 1 Aug 1624 in Assington. [From the parish register, Ref]
