prebendary: a canon receiving a stipend from and playing an administrative role at a cathedral

ye: the word "the" was at one time written as "þe". The letter "þ" is referred to as a "thorn" and still survives in Icelandic. Later, the " þ" was written as a "y". The word "ye" was pronounced as "the".
